The CWC conservation projects aim to preserve the environment for future generations with an emphasis on education and sustainability.

Litterbug Project

The CWC has been partnering with community members, schools and youth since 2010 in order to educate the community on environmental issues as well as completing cleaning-up projects in local villages on the island of Weno. Trained instructors visit local schools to give presentations educating youth on environmental issues confronting Chuuk. Litterbug clubs have been formed and participate in clean-up days, picking up garbage and planting trees and flowers in the newly cleaned areas to contribute to the beatification of the island.

By January 2015, Litterbug Clubs will hold five separate cleanup days at Mwan Elementary, Mizpah Christian High School, and the Communty.

By the end of 2014 educational print media such as brochures, posters and flyers will be developed, written in Chuukese, to promote understanding of environmental issues and this project. A radio segment will also be produced and broadcasted across Chuuk State, providing information on responsible habits to better our environment.

Let's recycle! In the coming year, recycling bins will be purchased and distributed at seven area school and the Shinobu M. Poll Wellness Center to give students and community members a way to segregate waste based on material type (paper, tin, plastic, etc.) and to decrease the amount of trash and debris. A competition will be held at theMwan Elementary School among the students for creative creations with recycled goods.
